Download LocalMCP for Mac
Open the app once. macOS keeps the headless Runtime available in the background after setup.
Remote MCP for your own Mac
Install one Mac app. Connect your account. Add one MCP URL. Then the AI host you already use can work with the local projects you allow.

Your Mac connects out. You do not configure a tunnel, token, or public port.
START HERE
Open the app once. macOS keeps the headless Runtime available in the background after setup.
Your browser opens the LocalMCP account page. Sign in and approve this Mac. The app receives a one-time Device credential; it never receives your account password.
In your AI host’s Remote MCP settings, add the URL below. The host opens LocalMCP OAuth so you can choose which Mac, work, and capabilities it may use.

YOUR AI HOST
The exact menu name varies by host. The flow does not: add a Remote MCP server, paste the LocalMCP URL, then complete OAuth.
TWO PERMISSIONS, TWO JOBS
LocalMCP does not require an inbound port on your Mac. Device and AI-host credentials stay separated by purpose. Code requested through MCP may still be sent to the AI provider you choose, under that provider’s terms and privacy settings.
IF SOMETHING ISN’T CONNECTED
Open LocalMCP on the Mac and choose Connect this Mac. Finish the browser approval. The Mac app should then report the Runtime and Cloud Relay as connected.
Your Mac can be online while an AI host is still unauthorized. Reconnect the Remote MCP server in that host and finish the separate LocalMCP OAuth approval.
No. For the normal LocalMCP flow, the Mac Runtime makes the outbound connection. The AI host only needs the public Remote MCP URL shown above.
Yes. Once the packaged background Runtime is enabled, macOS keeps it running independently of the SwiftUI window. You can reopen the app whenever you want to inspect or change the connection.
No tunnel setup. No Device token to copy. No second coding chat.
